The best time to do basement waterproofing is before you get an a leaky basement.

Basement waterproofing can be done any time of the year. In the summer the ground is dry and not frozen, so excavation will be easier to do. In addition waterproofing your basement in the dry season will help avoid basement leaks i the rainy seasons.

There is a number of benefits associated with basement waterproofing:

  1. Prevent Basement Leaks – basement waterproofing helps prevent basement leaks that will result in additional expenses to fix.

  2. Prevent Structural Damage – your foundation will be protected against water. This means increased life span of the materials used in construction.

  3. Value – this investement will increse the value of your property.

  4. Health Benefits – basement waterproofing will help prevent mold, mildew, fungus, which in turn will make your life healthier. These bacteria present health risks and can cause allergies and respiratory problems in people and animals.

  5. Energy saving – your basement will better retain warmth and you will spend less on heating & cooling.

Leaky basements are often caused by improper installation of exterior waterproofing membranes and sealants, inadequate drainage systems, hydrostatic pressure, and structural damage to the foundation. These issues can lead to water entering through cracks in the foundation walls and floors, and can cause significant damage to the building and its contents.

To prevent leaks, it is important to check the exterior of the home for damage, such as cracks in the foundation walls and sealants that may have been installed incorrectly or have come loose. It is also necessary to make sure the home has a proper drainage system to ensure that water is diverted away from the foundation and not allowed to pool near the house. Additionally, a sump pump can be installed to help remove any water that does make it into the basement. It is also important to ensure that the foundation is structurally sound and that any repairs are conducted by a professional.

Basement waterproofing is worth it, no questions asked.

If done properly, basement waterproofing will give you peace of mind that your property is safe from water damage.

Plus basement waterproofing will help prevent the spread of mold, mildew and fungus. The price of your property will increase, and so will the lifespan of materials used in your property and renovations.

In other words cost of basement waterproofing is a small price to pay for the peace of mind, healthier living and increasing the lifespan of your property.

Basement waterproofing typically takes few days to few weeks complete.

The exact timeline will depend on the specifics of your project and the type of waterproofing used. If the problem is relatively minor, with only a few cracks in the walls or floor, then the job could be completed in as little as a day or two.

If the problem is more serious, with large cracks, then it could take several days to properly seal the walls and floors.

In addition, the waterproofing process may require the installation of special equipment and materials, such as a sump pump or an interior drainage system, which may take additional time to install.

When it comes to basement waterproofing, there are two main methods to consider – interior versus exterior. Both of these options have their own benefits and drawbacks, so it is important to understand the differences between them in order to make an educated decision on which is best for your home.

Internal basement waterproofing is not technically waterproofing, but rather a technique designed to mitigate basement water. Interior waterproofing involves removing about a foot-wide section of the basement floor around the foundation. A trench is then dug out, a drainage membrane is installed on the foundation wall and a weeping tile is placed. The trench is then filled with 3/4 grovel and new concrete is poured in.

How Interior Basement Waterproofing works – this waterproofing system works by draining the underground water from under the basement and alongside footers. The water is then channeled with a weeping tile to the sump pump that pumps the water from the basement outside. While wall conduits like dimple boards are attached to the foundation wall and extended over the new drainage to guide any moisture down into the system.

The downside of the internal waterproofing method is that it does not address potential structural issues with the foundation and does not protect against flooding.

Exterior Basement Waterproofing – the specific methodology that we follow for exterior basement waterproofing will vary on a case-by-case basis. However, in example of a house with a poured concrete foundation exterior waterproofing will involve excavating around the foundation 4” below the top of the footing. The walls will then be cleaned and dried using a propane torch. After that, the foundation walls will be inspected for cracks, holes, and openings and the imperfections will be fixed. We then apply a sealing process exclusive to Aquamaster Waterproofing. Weeping tiles & cleanouts are installed and downspouts pipes are disconnected. The entire trench is then backfilled with river-washed gravel & excavated soil. Landscaping is done. See our unique exterior basement waterproofing process in the FAQ section below.

The best solution for your home will depend on the specific needs of your home and your budget. If you are looking for a long-term solution that offers more comprehensive protection, exterior waterproofing is the way to go. However, if you are looking for a more cost-effective solution that only needs to address seepage and minimal structural issues, interior waterproofing may be a better choice.
