Aquamaster Basement Wall Crack Repair Services
There are two ways we approach basement wall crack repair – the internal solution and the external solution. For foundation cracks wider than 3/16″ we recommend a combination of both internal and external solutions.
Basement Wall Crack Repair from Inside
Special ports are installed for the concrete wall crack repair and the entire length of the crack is covered with a two-component epoxy. In about 40 minutes, after the epoxy has completely hardened, the basement wall crack is injected with a second type of epoxy through the previously installed ports.
If there is moisture in the crack, epoxy cannot be used and the crack has to be injected with polyurethane. This particular material reacts with moisture and turns into expanding foam, sealing the entire cavity from within. Then it takes about 72 hours for the injected epoxy or polyurethane to cure and seal your concrete wall crack.
Basement Wall Crack Repair from Outside
Our team will expose the crack from the outside, which involves digging out a section around the foundation wall. After the damage is exposed, cleaned, and dried, we cut into the crack at a 45-degree angle on both sides, making it wider.
It is then filled with hydraulic cement, and the outside is waterproofed using a rubberized asphalt membrane and DELTA MS exterior waterproofing membrane.
Basement Floor Cracks
Over many years, floor cracks can often show up in your house as it settles. Shrinking concrete and poor drainage below the slab make it worse. Older homes usually have thin floors poured right onto soil. There’s little or no gravel underneath to block rising groundwater. Over time, the constant moisture wears down the concrete. That’s when leaks or cracks start to appear.
To fix this, we create shallow trenches in the floor. These lead to a central drainage point. We install weeping tile and surround it with gravel to collect water. The area is then sealed with new concrete to match the existing floor. This relieves pressure from below and helps protect your basement from further cracking.
Weeping Tile Check-Up
An important step in the external solution is to check the condition of the existing weeping tile system (the pipe installed next to the footing that collects and drains away groundwater) with the help of a drain camera inspection. The weeping tile is then covered with approximately 1′ of clean 3/4 gravel and a fabric filter before the hole is backfilled – tamping down the soil gradually. How We Fix Basement Wall Cracks
At Aquamaster, we follow a clear, proven method for every crack repair job. We combine both interior and exterior options depending on the crack, moisture level, and location.
Step 1: On-Site Inspection
We start with a full inspection of your basement foundation wall. Our team checks the size, shape, and location of the crack. We also look at moisture, drainage, and any signs of shifting.
Step 2: Internal Crack Injection
For dry or accessible cracks, we install injection ports along the wall. Then we inject either epoxy or polyurethane resin into the crack. These materials expand to fill gaps and seal the space fully.
Step 3: Exterior Excavation (if needed)
For deeper or leaking cracks, we dig from the outside to reach the basement foundation wall. After cleaning and widening the crack, we apply waterproof membrane layers and protective coatings.
Step 4: Drainage Check and Improvements
If the area around the home is not draining well, we may recommend improvements to the weeping tile or grading. Good drainage prevents future pressure on the wall.
Step 5: Final Testing and Cleanup
After sealing, we test the wall to make sure water no longer enters. We also clean the site and provide a full summary of the work completed.
Our crack repair process is designed to fix the problem, not just patch it.

Why Do You Need Basement Wall Crack Repair?
Cracks in your basement foundation wall do not heal on their own. They allow moisture, air, and even pests to enter. Quick crack repair keeps your home dry, stable, and comfortable.
Visible Water Stains or Damp Spots
White powdery residue or damp streaks on walls means water is seeping through foundation wall cracks.
Musty Smells or High Humidity
Cracks allow moisture into the space. That leads to stale air, higher humidity, and sometimes mold growth.
Cracks That Grow Wider
Small cracks can expand with pressure or temperature changes. Widening cracks often mean the wall is under strain.
Uneven Walls or Floors
If walls look bowed or floors feel sloped near a crack, it shows that something is shifting below the surface.
Catching these warning signs early helps you avoid more costly structural repairs later.

What Are the Reasons for Foundation Cracks?
Not every crack is random. Below are the most common causes behind cracks in the basement foundation wall.
Soil Pressure Around the Wall
When soil gets wet it expands and pushes against the foundation wall. Over time that pressure can cause cracks to form.
House Settlement
As the home settles into the ground, uneven shifting can stress the foundation. That results in cracks at joints or corners.
Poor Drainage or Weeping Tile Failures
Blocked or damaged weeping tile and poor grading cause water to pool against the basement foundation wall. Increased pressure often leads to cracks.
Freeze and Thaw Cycles
Ontario winters bring freeze and thaw patterns that push and pull on the concrete foundation. Over time that movement leads to cracking.
Weak Concrete or Build Errors
If concrete was poured too quickly or without proper curing and reinforcement, cracks can appear sooner in the life‑span of the foundation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my basement walls need repairs?
If you see cracks in your basement walls, notice damp spots, or smell a musty odour, it’s a sign there may be a problem. A professional inspection can confirm whether the crack is active, leaking, or a symptom of foundation stress. Aquamaster offers on‑site assessments to help you understand what’s happening and what the next steps should be.
What causes foundation wall cracks?
Cracks in foundation walls often form due to soil pressure, seasonal ground movement, poor drainage, or natural settling over time. Homes without proper waterproofing or drainage systems are more likely to develop cracks. Identifying what caused the crack helps us choose the right repair approach.
How long does basement wall crack repair take in Toronto?
Most interior crack repairs take about one day to complete. If excavation or exterior waterproofing is needed, the work may take longer depending on soil conditions and access. During your consultation, we’ll give you a clear timeline based on the scope of work.
Do cracks in walls always mean foundation problems?
Not always. Some wall cracks are caused by surface settling or drywall movement and don’t affect the foundation. But if the crack appears in the basement foundation wall, or you see signs like water seepage or widening gaps, it may point to a deeper issue that should be inspected.
How serious is a crack in a basement wall?
It depends on the crack’s size, direction, and whether water is entering through it. Thin, vertical cracks may be cosmetic, while wide, horizontal, or stair-step cracks often signal structural stress or drainage pressure. It’s best to have cracks assessed early before they worsen.
What do structural cracks look like?
Structural cracks are usually wider than 1/8″, run horizontally or diagonally, and may appear in stair-step patterns across block foundations. You may also see signs like bowing walls, uneven floors, or doors that no longer close properly. Don’t wait until the cracks get larger. Get it repaired fast, call Aquamaster!
